What’s Our Process?

Initial Consultation

You start the process with a complimentary 15-minute initial consultation via phone or videoconference. During this time, you can ask any questions about our therapy process, and we’ll get you set up with all the information you need to begin. We’ll also discuss your child’s unique needs and how we can tailor our approach to best support their growth and development.

Evaluation

During the evaluation, your child will participate in fun, engaging activities that help us understand their communication strengths and needs. After the evaluation, we will provide you with a comprehensive report, a personalized plan of care, and specific recommendations for therapy. This plan will guide our work together to support your child’s growth and development.

Begin Therapy: Speech & DIR Floortime

After the evaluation, you can begin services tailored to your child’s specific needs. Speech therapy is available in 30–60 minute sessions, scheduled 1–2 times per week, while DIR/Floortime is provided in-home for 2–4 hours per day, 3–5 days per week, emphasizing meaningful, relationship-based interactions and developmental progress.

How Do I Know if my Child’s Speech is Delayed?

The clearest signs parents should to be looking for is whether or not their child is communicating at an age-appropriate level. Take note of whether your child is able to express themselves using words and sentences, whether they show difficulty responding to others, whether they can comprehend things being said to them, and whether they’re able to string together coherent sentences. A diagnosis of an Expressive Language Disorder which will be diagnosed by a speech pathologist, refers to children who struggle to expressive themselves at the level required to meet their needs. This can cover:

  • Children with decreased attention, play skills, or eye contact

  • Toddlers who aren’t pointing to what they want or who aren’t using sounds

  • Toddlers around 12 months of age who aren’t yet saying their first words

  • Toddlers around 24 months of age who are not yet putting words together to make phrases

  • Children struggling with grammar and vocabulary

  • Children who struggle to answer questions or participate in conversation

How Can Early Intervention Speech Therapy Help With a Speech Delay?

Therapy for children who are not yet talking (or not yet talking to their full capacity) is incredibly beneficial because it isn’t just about the child - it’s about the whole family. We work on increasing connection between parent and child, inspiring communication within the family unit by involving everyone in activities that build communicative skills. This also equips you to continue growth outside of sessions with a therapist, as we provide tools for you to be using as parents to continue building on your child’s speech development.

Our speech therapy service uses play therapy to teach language readiness skills, keeping children engaged and providing opportunities for them to use language within little games. Our primary goal is to provide a safe, fun environment in which your child can work on their language and you can learn with them.

At What Age Should my Child Start Speech Therapy?

When it comes to speech therapy, it’s a case of ‘the sooner the better.’ No matter their age, if a child is showing signs of delayed speech or struggles with communication they are eligible for therapy. There’s no minimum requirement - should any parent be concerned with their child’s speech or language development, then there’s no harm in reaching out to a speech therapist to find out if therapy may be a good option. Don’t wait around for things to seem more serious, but instead consult with a therapist to see if evaluation of your child may be necessary.
